What Does Your AI Usage Say About You?

Hope your weekend was fulfilling and you ate some good food!

I believe experiential learning has a central point in what it means to be a human so you can grow in your wisdom. However, if you have a moment to learn from others experience you can save yourself a lot of time and money. And I wanted to apply that to our conversation around AI.

I gathered my community and asked everyone the same question:

“If someone looked at your daily habits and digital footprint, what would it reveal about your choice to actively use or avoid AI?”

These were their responses (Names have been redacted and only general titles will be used so people know the industry):

“I have no legitimate reason to use AI. Just as I try to not purchase anything from Amazon I try not to use AI.” – Writer

“I use AI to assist with my job for almost everything. Coming up with proposal language, being an engineer for me when it comes to how systems work and corrective actions. It is a handy tool but I usually only use it heavily when I’m in a time crunch to digest information rapidly and spit out what I need to know. Lately I have been in a time crunch so I have been using it a lot. I used ChatGPT at first but switched to Claude.” – Estimator

“I use AI daily, from following algorithms on social media to using AI tools to improve my efficiency and refine my writing at work. That doesn’t mean I’m not afraid of it. I worry about algorithms misinterpreting me, constantly second-guessing AI advice, and the possibility that AI could reshape, or even harm the world. Still, I embrace it because it’s here to stay, and I want to learn how to use these tools responsibly and for good.” – Healthcare Professional

“Professionally, my digital footprint would show use of AI to create questions and answers using video transcripts, agents developed by me to create encouraging emails, and to find creative ways to present information.

Personally, my use would show researching various ideas for food preparation, house work, and business ideas.” – High School Teacher

“I think it would reveal that I actively use AI almost everyday for work purposes. However I use it more as an organizational and proofreading tool rather than having it do my thinking for me. There was a short period where I heavily relied on AI so much to the point where I didn’t really think. I would ask AI for ideas and ways to implement them instead of actually thinking for myself. I had to reel that in because I did not like the person I was becoming. I felt like a dumb zombie. Not fun. Now I have a healthier pattern with AI usage and using it as a tool rather than a brain.” – Admin Professional

“I like to think I avoid AI as much as possible but the truth is some form of AI has been part of my daily flow for quite some time now. I do my best to avoid chat bots and generative AI tools because while I do see some merit in their use for a range of things, I do also believe the impact they are having on people is overall negative.” – Application Specialist

“This lady’s trying to be a Gardner, interior designer, plus a health guru on the side.” – Healthcare Professional

I believe these responses speak for themselves and give voice to the thoughts swimming through our culture. Even if you don’t agree with someones opinion, there’s a lot to learn from these responses and I hope you take a moment to reflect on what you’ve read to see what you can glean from this collective experience. Our ways of thinking are continually going to be shaped by this new frontier if we allow ourselves to learn from others. I love that you interviewed actual people for this which humanizes the use of AI in another way… the responses you’re sharing also shows what perspective AI has for the interviewer. Thank you for making this topic interesting!
