Happy Friday and I hope you get all the candy for yourself!

Since it’s the end of the month lets take a moment to appreciate that it was a busy month in Tech for the good, bad, and the ugly. I want to take a moment to appreciate my top 5 moments that deserve a Sports Center highlight reel. It’s also nice because many things slip through the cracks and this is a way for you to digest the things that may have passed by. In the spirit of the holiday each one is getting a horror/sci-fi movie gif. Also each one is going to receive a spooky score. Here we go:
5. Agentic AI goes full iRobot

This was such a bad movie, yes I am a hater and I’m proud of it. That being said Agentic AI is not going away and you should be aware of it’s impact in the workforce. More companies are adopting this practice because we all are understanding AI is just a fun toy until it actually understands the data you’re looking at. And it truly means a better chance at getting a return on your investment if you’re shelling out a lot of money to these companies. Spooky Score 2/10
4. Gemini 4 Carbon is ALIVE!!! – Frankenstein

Cool we have a new model nothing crazy to report here other than it hits on better cybersecurity standards which is grand considering what else happened this month. So spooky score is relatively low lets call it a 3/10 just because AI being a thing is still wild to me.
3. Nuclear Energy & PowerGrids aka Dawn of the Dead

That’s right we’re bringing back nuclear energy! More power and more quickly is the best move that the federal government could shell out for more data centers that are reaching capacity in record time. I’d say the spooky score here is around 5/10 because what it could do for the future is pretty major. Especially considering other discoveries…
2. OpenAI solves Math… literally – Silence of the Lambs

How I imagine OpenAI employees woke up feeling in October. According to OpenAI, they made 3 new discoveries in mathematics that when I read what they were… I became content being someone who knows basically nothing. In the grand scheme I believe these realities to be very beneficial in the downstream effects for consumers especially health related discoveries regarding genetic information that can lead to the discovery of cures of diseases that have caused so much pain. Simultaneously, there should be large room for criticism where these findings can be independently reviewed and not just used to boost consumer sales. But overall I give it an 6/10 freaky factor.

1. Black October for CyberSecurity – A Quiet Place

This is where things get actually scary and not necessarily fun to watch. The circulated name for this month in cybersecurity was Black October for the amount of security vulnerabilities that were either discovered or exploited during the month. I think Vanity Fair (weird that they reported on this) had a great summary of the situation. From my own experience I can only imagine the lack of sleep that some of my friends in cyber security are facing and my prayers go to you during this time. I wrote about some of the downstream effects that happened last Friday. It seems the only effective change that can really be done is by the elected officials and powers at play and that should be really important to you and me. Spooky Factor 10/10
The hard part is that these tools are so helpful and yet so dangerous if in the wrong hands or if they go haywire in the wrong hands. And the reality is, they are only getting more powerful with the propensity to do amazing things whether that be amazingly evil or good.
The best thing you could do is raise your voice about these concerns with the power that you do have.
In the meantime don’t lose hope! There is room for growth and change always.
