I desperately need to go to a concert by the end of the year.

And I’m not the only one who wants a life changing experience from live music. Artists are seeing a huge bump in their streaming royalties after performing at the sphere. Here’s a recent graph showing the shaded region of their Sphere residency combined with their streaming performance, provided by Luminate:

I’ve never been to the sphere and not sure I’ll be able to go any time soon with other family trips I’ll be taking for the last quarter of the year… but it looks so dang cool.
Besides how cool it looks this graph is of a DJ I don’t find myself listening to that often but I thought the data was pretty illuminating. It’s something I always noticed from going to a concert. I may know the main act but if an opener catches my attention, I’ll be listening to their music as soon as I leave the venue! It’s this discovery process that I’m sure most of us have experienced. We remember the experience when we listen to the music and crave more experiences in a time where it gets increasingly tougher to go out and enjoy entertainment without breaking the bank.
But the sphere shows us something. Even with the inundation of more and more emerging technology where our lives are becoming exponentially more about rapid growth, automation, and success: we actually crave connection more than ever. I see that with the battle between AI music vs. Human made music that I explored in a previous experiment. The battle for more and more places for to experience community outside of the office. We are already filled with reasons for needing connection.
Maybe you don’t know where to start your live music journey and that’s where I found Ariadna Carmona’s Neon Setlist blog to be very insightful for exploring the current music landscape. But start small and go to an open mic night and see who’s putting their soul out there, and then eventually yo can make your way to the sphere.
